How much do I spend at Starbucks?

To find your Starbucks spending, choose a date range, find the purchases on every account you used, and add the posted charges minus refunds. If you use a Starbucks Card, check whether your bank shows balance reloads. A reload can cover several purchases, so it cannot tell you what each visit cost.

Find your total for the period

  1. Choose the same start and end dates for every account. A calendar month is convenient if you want to compare it with a monthly spending limit.
  2. Search your bank or card activity for Starbucks. If your bank offers an export, you can filter the CSV instead. Check unfamiliar merchant descriptions against your receipts before including them.
  3. Use posted transactions. A pending authorization and its later posted charge can describe the same purchase. Keep genuine separate purchases even when their amounts match.
  4. Add the purchases and subtract refunds. Check how your export represents debits and credits so a refund reduces the total. Repeat for any other account used.
  5. Keep direct purchases and stored-balance reloads separate. Avoid counting both the money loaded and the purchases paid from that same balance.

For example, posted purchases of $6, $8, and $10, with a $2 refund, total $22. These figures are illustrative. Cash purchases and purchases paid from a gift balance may be missing from your connected bank history.

Check what a card reload measures

Starbucks describes loading a Card as prepaying for goods and services. Its Starbucks Card terms also explain how to view Card transaction history. A bank charge for a reload measures money added to that balance; the purchases made from it may happen on different days.

Choose the number that answers your question. For money leaving your bank during the month, include the reload in that period. For purchases consumed during the month, review the Card purchase history along with any direct payments. Label the result so you know which total you are comparing next month.

A total and a usual check answer different questions

The total tells you what was recorded over the period. Lake's usual check estimates the cost of an eligible visit from recent transactions. When a place matches a spending limit, Lake can also show limit left and visits left. The limit can be generated by Lake or edited by you.

An illustrative usual check of $14 with $56 left in a matching limit leaves room for four similar visits. Those are example figures, not a claim about your spending. Read how Lake calculates these numbers and when the available history is insufficient for an estimate.

Lake connects to supported banks and cards through Plaid. It can find usual places without category or watchlist setup before the reveal. It works with the transactions available through that connection; it does not turn a balance reload into a record of every coffee order. Our automatic spending tracker guide covers what that connection can and cannot tell you.

Questions about Starbucks spending

How do I find out how much I spend at Starbucks?
Choose a date range and review the matching purchases on each account you used. Add posted purchases and subtract refunds, counting each transaction once. If you pay with a Starbucks Card, decide whether you want the amount loaded from your bank or the value of purchases made from that balance. They measure different things.
Does a Starbucks Card reload count as one visit?
A reload adds money to a stored balance. That balance can pay for multiple purchases, so a bank statement showing one reload does not establish one store visit. Review the Starbucks Card transaction history for purchases paid from that balance.
Is Lake's usual check my monthly Starbucks total?
A usual check estimates what an eligible visit usually costs, based on recent transactions. A monthly total adds the spending recorded during that month. Lake's usual check is not a replacement for that total, and a reload-only bank history may not describe individual visits.
Will Starbucks appear in my free Lake reveal?
It can appear when the connected transaction history supports an eligible pattern and it is among the places shown. The free phone reveal lists two usual places across up to two linked institutions. Connecting an account does not guarantee that a particular merchant will appear.
