Lake Financial: Cookie Notice
Effective October 30, 2026
This Cookie Notice explains how Rieper LLC, doing business as Lake Financial ("Lake," "we," "us"), uses cookies and similar technologies on www.lakefin.net and the Lake web application (the "website"). It is part of the Lake Privacy Policy, which describes the information these technologies collect and how Lake uses it.
What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. A first-party cookie is set by the site you are visiting; a third-party cookie is set by another company's service on that site. Session cookies end when you close the browser; persistent cookies last until they expire or you delete them.
Websites can also keep information in your browser's local storage or session storage, and can load a pixel: a small piece of code that sends a request to another company when a page loads. This notice covers all of these.
Cookies the website uses
| Cookie | Category | Set by | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| __session, __client_uat and related Clerk cookies | Essential | Clerk, for Lake | Keep you signed in and protect your session | Until you sign out or the session ends |
| __Host-lake-deletion-status | Essential | Lake | After you request account deletion, lets this browser check that request's status. It is HTTPS-only and HttpOnly, so page scripts cannot read it, and it holds no email or financial details | Up to 30 days |
| lake_utm | Analytics | Lake | Records the campaign labels (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content) of the link you first arrived from, so Lake knows which of its campaigns brought you. It holds no identifier of you | 90 days |
| _ga and _ga_<ID> | Analytics | Google Analytics 4, for Lake | Count visits and product-funnel steps across the website. Google Signals and ad personalization are off, and transaction identifiers and spending-detail keys are removed from page addresses before they are sent | Up to 2 years, renewed on each visit |
| _fbp, and _fbc when you arrive from a Meta ad link | Advertising | Meta Platforms, Inc. | Measure whether Lake's ads on Facebook and Instagram lead to sign-ups. Set only on the public landing, sign-in and sign-up pages and the brief post-signup welcome page, never on signed-in application pages such as the dashboard, and never if your browser sends Global Privacy Control | 90 days |
Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights also run on the website. Neither sets cookies. Section 1.4 of the Privacy Policy lists what they receive.
Browser storage the website uses
| Item | Type | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| lake.theme | Local storage | Remembers your light or dark theme choice | Until you change it or clear site data |
| lake.feedback.sessions, lake.feedback.lastSeen, lake.feedback.shownAt | Local storage | Decides when to show the in-app feedback prompt, so it does not appear too often | Until you clear site data |
| lake.ga.sign_up | Local storage | Records that the sign-up event was already sent to Google Analytics, so it is not counted twice | Until you clear site data |
| lake_plaid_link_pending | Local storage | Lets a bank connection continue after your bank's sign-in page sends you back. Lake rejects it after 30 minutes and clears it when the connection finishes or is canceled | Until the connection finishes, or you clear site data |
| lake.measurement.pending-refusal.<hash> | Local storage | Keeps optional usage measurement paused in this browser until Lake confirms your opt-out. It holds a one-way hash of your account identifier and a random marker | Until Lake confirms the change, or you clear site data |
| lake:tz-capture | Session storage | Records that this tab already sent your time zone to your account settings, so it is sent once | Until you close the tab |
The Lake iPhone app
The iPhone app does not use cookies, advertising identifiers or third-party tracking code. What it stores on your device, such as saved deletion checks and reminder places, is described in Section 1.6 of the Privacy Policy.
Your choices
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends this signal, the Meta Pixel does not load and Meta sets no cookies. Lake treats the signal as your request to opt out of the ad-measurement sharing described in the Privacy Policy.
- Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear local and session storage for a site. Blocking third-party cookies or turning on tracking protection also limits the Meta Pixel. If you block essential cookies, you will not be able to sign in.
- Google Analytics. You can install Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout or block cookies for the website.
- Meta. You can limit how Meta uses information for ads at facebook.com/adpreferences.
- Optional usage measurement. Lake's own usage measurement is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off in Settings.
Your choices apply to the browser and device where you make them, so repeat them on each browser you use.
Changes to this notice
When Lake adds, removes or changes a cookie or similar technology, we update this notice and its date. A change that expands collection or adds a recipient follows the notice rules in Section 9 of the Privacy Policy.
